Patrick Allen is an award winning teacher and author based in Crawley, West Sussex, where he worked as an Advanced Skills Teacher, Chair of Arts and Head of Music at Ifield Communty College until July 2015.
He is the winner of the 1999 TES Schoolbook Award, a 2004 Guardian Award for Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School, and the 2015 National Union of Teachers Teacher Award for "inspirational leadership" of a music ensemble.
His publications have been a mainstay of many school music departments.
Between 1987 and 2015, Patrick also directed one of the UK's leading youth choirs, widely acclaimed for its inclusivity and excellence. The choir represented the UK in the 2011 EBU Let the People's Sing competition, performed several times for BBC Radio 3 and appeared on a single by Rihanna in 2015. The choir also performed with a unique teenage drumming group from Crawley's Chagossian community.
